“How do I sell my car on eBay?” A friend approached me a week ago with that question. He needed some money fast and he wanted to sell his car real quick. He’s heard that selling stuff over the Internet is a lot better than selling things the traditional way. He knows next to nothing about using computers and about the Internet so he asked me if I could help him to sell his car on the eBay thing that he’s heard about.
I am not familiar with selling cars over Ebay either, but I supposed that it was not over overly difficult so I told him that I was going to do it for him. Naturally I had to do some research first before I could even start to help my friend out. So the next few days after that I spent discovering the things that are needed in order for him to be able to sell his car online. I can imagine that the information that I found out can be useful to some other people as well. So in order to help them out here is the information that I have discovered about selling cars on eBay:
1. One of the first things that you have to do in order to sell your car over Ebay is to know the important things about the site. Ebay has become one of the most important auction sites anywhere on the Internet today. Ebay offers a wide selection of items of different categories. One of the categories that you can find on the site is Ebay Motors which deals with cars and vehicles of all kinds.
2. The first step in selling your car over eBay is to become a member. That is very easy to do. Just go to their website at ebay.com. At the top of their page you can see a link that says register. Click on that link, fill in all the needed info, make sure that you check the portion that asks if you are a buyer or a seller. Once your account is approved then you can proceed.
3. Ebay charges you to list items on the site and that includes vehicles. There is an insertion fee for items that you want to sell and it does not matter whether the car will be bought or not. In case your car is sold then you are going to be charged a successful listing fee which can be anywhere from $80 to $125.
4. You need to fill out a Sell Your Item Form which will include all the important information about your vehicle and that includes all the defects that it might have. It is crucial to be honest and upfront here.
5. You are going to be the one to pick the time when the auction will end. There is no fixed time for how long an auction can last. It all depends if anyone becomes interested on what you are selling. It will show on the page of your item the number of days remaining before the auction ends.
Generally an auction should be at least 7 days long in order to gain the most interest from the largest number of people. You can also add a reserve price to your auction which is the minimum you want your car to sell for. This can be a good idea, but it can also help to advertise an auction as without a reserve as that gets a lot more people interested. You’ll have to decide for yourself.
6. At the end of the auction, if there is any successful bidder then they will receive a message from Ebay. The message will include your email address. You can also send messages of your own to the successful bidder.
7. Remember that Ebay is not responsible for pushing the transaction to a close. Once the auction ends it is up to you on how the exchange will be made.
