If the money that you are earning for your work is just passing through your hands like a breeze and you are ending up broke all over then you might have to do some serious planning. It might be that the money that you are earning is actually enough for all of your needs and that what you really need is some sort of plan, a budget that can help to keep all of your expenses planned out and organized. To help you out, here are some tips on how to budget and save money:
1. Start by figuring out how much you really spend each month. You can do that by going through all your bills and receipts for a whole 1 month period and writing down all the other expenses. Remember that you have to include everything. No matter how small and trivial it is, you have to write it down. Sometimes, those small trifles are the expenses that can really make a difference in your budget. If you have any debts, include the payments that you are making towards it each month. Make a list of some of the things that you spend on for your entertainment, amusement, and luxury.
2. Once you have listed down those items that you have been spending money on, start by going through the list and writing off those things that you can do without. Now this takes honesty and discipline. Only write off the things that you are absolutely sure that you can live without and whatever it is that you decide to write off make sure that you do not spend money on it again.
3. Based on the remaining expenses you can then place it against what you earn from your work and from any extra sources of income that you have. If your expenses is still higher than what you earn that just means that you have to cut back even further and make some more adjustments. Once you have reduced your monthly expenses to an amount that is lower than your income the difference must go to your savings account.
4. It is quite easy to come up with a monthly budget but it is an entirely different thing to stick to it and make sure that you are saving something each month. Like what I have mentioned it takes a lot of discipline. It is quite tempting to spend the extra money that you have saved, but if you want to see some progress with your finances you need to stick to your budget.
5. Open up a savings account if you do not have one. Once you receive your pay, deposit the projected amount that you can save and just leave the projected amount for your budget. In cases where your money falls short withdrawing money from the savings account should be the last resort. Once you develop a habit of withdrawing the money that you have on your savings account you might as well stop trying to budget your monthly expenses, because you’re just wasting your time.
